Systems Lead · DevOps Architect · Web Developer
Three and a half years in which I walked the whole way from developer to systems lead, by way of DevOps architect. I started writing applications and ended up deciding the infrastructure they ran on, which is why I now design with both in mind at once.
Systems and Infrastructure Lead
Jul 2024 – Feb 2025
IT management, strategy and leadership
- Project management and the technical client relationship.
- Leading the systems team: task tracking, support and mentoring.
- Strategic IT infrastructure design, with technical evaluation and procurement of hardware and software for expansions and improvements.
- Capacity and performance reporting, improvement plans and management of critical incidents with vendors and suppliers.
Microsoft and Active Directory architecture
- Design and implementation of multi-site Active Directory architectures, with replication management and site topology.
- Planning and execution of cross-forest migrations and schema upgrades.
- Identity management, single sign-on (SSO) upgrades and corporate-level user administration.
DevOps Architect
Nov 2022 – Feb 2025
Cloud infrastructure and systems administration
- Deployment and management of resources on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud, orchestrated with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Proxmox and VMware virtualization clusters, both internal and client-facing.
- Advanced Linux and Windows server administration: storage, filesystems, shared drives, hardening and host-level firewalls.
- Implementation of secure network protocols and services (SSH, SFTP, FTP, NFS) and centralized authentication.
Development, integration and data
- Building and maintaining web applications in .NET Core, PHP (Symfony, Laravel, Yii), Python (Django) and Java/Kotlin (Spring Boot), with React and Next.js frontends.
- Native mobile development for iOS (Swift, Objective-C) and Android (Java, Kotlin).
- Event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka as the data bus.
- Automation of system operations with Bash, PowerShell and Python.
Operations, capacity and continuity
- Monitoring with CheckMK, Nagios and Icinga2.
- Availability and performance reporting and capacity plans to support decision-making.
- Design of backup, at-rest encryption, recovery and continuity plans.
- Diagnosis, resolution and escalation of critical incidents, with technical liaison to vendors and suppliers.
Web Developer
Sep 2021 – Nov 2022
Full-stack and mobile development
- Programming web applications across multiple stacks: .NET (Core and Framework), PHP (Symfony, Laravel, Yii), Java/Kotlin (Spring Boot), Python (Django) and frontends in React and Next.js.
- Creating and maintaining native mobile applications for iOS and Android.
- Application migration projects and content management with a CMS (Drupal).
First steps into infrastructure
- Deployment and orchestration of services with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Configuration of monitoring agents, backup systems and task schedulers.
- Incident diagnosis at operating-system level and analysis of recurring problems to build improvement plans.
